Edge-first economics
Cloudflare's edge-first model means many costs that a centralised gateway charges as add-ons (DDoS, WAF basics, CDN) are bundled. The trade-off is that schema validation and mTLS sit behind Business or Enterprise.

Public partner APIs, B2C mobile BFFs, and any workload where global edge cache and DDoS at L3/L4 are part of the requirement.

API Shield continues to gate schema validation, mTLS, and discovery to Business and Enterprise plans. Workers paid plan is $5 per month with $0.30 per million requests beyond 10M.
