API gateway per-call pricing

Per-call is the cleanest pricing model and the easiest to model. It is also the line that fools buyers into ignoring the rest of the bill.

Vendors that charge per-call

AWS API Gateway, Azure APIM Consumption, Cloudflare Workers, Fastly Compute@Edge, Apigee PAYG, and WSO2 Choreo all expose a per-call line. The rest expose call volume only indirectly via tier or service count.

How caching changes effective per-call

A 60% cache hit ratio cuts the billable origin-hitting count by 60%. On Cloudflare, the cache is part of the platform. On AWS, the cache is a separate hourly line; cache hits do not reduce the per-million-request fee on API Gateway itself.
