Kong vs Apigee

Schema diff. Konnect Plus per-service vs Apigee X PAYG environment-hour. Two different mental models, one decision.

List-price comparison at three workloads

At 100M calls per month, three environments, one region: Konnect Plus lists at $250 per month for 5 services (you may need more). Apigee X PAYG with three Base environments at $0.50 per hour per region runs roughly $1,095 per month before per-call.

At 500M calls per month: Konnect Plus continues at the same per-service rate (call volume does not change per-service billing on Plus); Apigee PAYG per-call begins to matter.

At 1B calls per month, both platforms become candidates for subscription quotes. Apigee Subscription tiers and Konnect Enterprise are both quote-only.

Operating-model trade-off

Konnect on EKS: you own the data plane, Konnect runs the control plane. Apigee X: Google runs both. The Konnect path lets you keep request data in your VPC and avoid Google-Cloud lock-in. The Apigee path lets you avoid the EKS bill entirely.

For multi-cloud or air-gap requirements, Konnect wins. For monetised partner APIs with rate-limited tiers and packaged products, Apigee's developer-portal and analytics catalogue is harder to beat.
